My Story
The first time I ever attempted surfing a wave, I was 7 years old, and I stood up. That's the moment I fell in love with surfing.
But just because I loved it, didn’t mean it was easy. The more I practiced, the more I realized I had to be creative when it came to doing different maneuvers and techniques. But, this wasn’t new to me, because I was born with one and a half arms, so I had to get creative with most things I did in life.
No, i didn’t lose my arm to a shark, but, I remember a time I was inspired by someone who did.
I was learning to duck dive and it was so incredibly hard to do that I almost quit surfing forever. I had actually already stopped surfing for three months, but during that time, I looked up videos on how to duck dive until one day I came across a video of Bethany Hamilton. I saw the way she did a duck dive with one arm, and was determined to try it her way (i succeeded!).
Since that day, I continued working on my maneuvers and techniques, always finding a way to make it happen. It hasn’t been easy, but with a lot of dedication and faith, I’ve been able to do what I set my mind to and I’m determined to keep going.
My next goals are to:
1. Bring parasurfing to the Paralympics and compete for gold.
2. Be sponsored by a brand I love.
3. Receive a prosthetic arm.
4. Be the first male parasurfer to compete against able-bodied surfers in a 3rd division WQS WSL competition, and
5. Continue competing internationally. Who’s ready to join me in making history? This is just the beginning.
